In loving memory of “PEANUT” a little rescue that came to us in 2007.

Little Peanut was passed onto us, our rescue, when taken to another YORKIE lover in November 2007.

The reason he was DUMPED, he jumped into a babies pram.

I was shocked, how could anyone, who had owned such an adorable, placid, extremely well behaved little yorkie DUMP him – because a human baby had arrived? He had been these peoples canine baby for many years.  What was the reason for being kicked out of his home? He could hardly have caused any problem to the baby concerned? If he was good enough to own and love prior to a baby coming on the scene, how on earth could he have become  a discardable pet overnight, and literally kicked to the curb.

I find it most alarming when people discard the animals, “THEY” have adopted, purchased, loved at some time or another, because a baby has arrived on the scene. IF the owner of the “discardable pet” took the necessary care and the pet was treated and kept as it should be, it would at no stage be any threat to a baby, toddler or child.

A few simple points to follow would be listed below, and these things should be done to all pets, at all times.

Keep the animal clean. Regular bathing. Keep the animal dewormed – regular deworming. Keep the animal inoculated – yearly by your vet. Teach the animal to behave, which should have been done from day one, on acquisition of the pup/dog.

Peanut had been well cared for, he was also in his senior years.

My own children, and my young grandchildren, of 2 and 4 years of age, have all grown up with pets. They are much better people/children for owning and living with pets and knowing the love one can only get from a pet.

As they say – you have never lived if you have never known the love of an animal…….

Peanut will always be remembered. He slept on our bed, from the day he came to us, he always asked to be picked up, stood at the side of the bed, he had unbelievable manners. He was a small dog, very lightweight, must have weighed around 1.3kg. He was finely boned. Could not have hurt a mouse let alone a baby.  In the time he was with us, he never growled at another dog, was never involved with a dog fight or argument as so many Yorkies are, he was the perfect, well behaved little dog. We will miss him.

Passed away peacefully in his sleep around 5a.m. March 17, 2010. His age ?  very old.
